Ripcord Design is officially a carbon-neutral green web hosting provider. All of our services, including hosting, are carbon-neutral, which means all of our clients' hosted websites are 100% carbon-neutral as well.
How did we do it?
We started by estimating our total carbon emissions with the free audit tool at websitecarbon.com.
Our services and websites are well-optimized, so we already had a low impact. We took the extra step to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by supporting reforestation projects through Carbonfund.org.
Why did we do it?
- It was cheap and easy to do.
- We did it to help our clients. Smart, responsible small businesses are looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact. Going carbon-neutral was an easy way to complement our clients' efforts on the digital side of their business.
- Ripcord Design is about making the web better. That means being efficient, professional, and responsible in providing our services.
Does it make any difference?
The internet accounts for around 4% of global carbon emissions - more than the entire airline industry. And that number is expected to double by 2025.
Ripcord Design hosts fewer than 100 small business clients, so our impact is negligible. However, just as every kg of CO2 contributes a little more to the problem, every kg removed helps.
